A spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry on Wednesday called on the United States to approach tariff negotiations with an attitude of equality, respect and mutual benefit.

Lin Jian made the remarks in response to Washington's sweeping additional tariffs on Chinese goods entering the country.

Noting that the U.S. continues to impose excessive tariffs on China and resorts to maximum pressure at every turn, Li said China firmly opposes it and will never accept such bullying and hegemonic acts.

If the U.S. truly wishes to resolve issues through dialogue and negotiation, it must adopt an attitude of equality, respect and mutual benefit, he said.

However, if the U.S. decides not to care about the interests of the U.S. itself, China, and the rest of the world and is determined to fight a tariff and trade war, China's response will continue to the end, said Lin.
