A powerful new film from China has been released in U.S. theaters. “Evil Unbound 731” is a war drama that unearths deep trauma and unspeakable truths from World War II, including the infamous Japanese unit 731 and the biological experiments they conducted on civilians.

Its U.S. release raises urgent questions about memory, justice and reckoning with history.
