A 10-part documentary, "Victory," produced by China Media Group (CMG), will air on CCTV-1 and CCTV-10 beginning August 26. The documentary chronicles the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. It will air on CCTV-1 at 8:00 p.m. on premiere day and on CCTV-10 at 9:20 p.m. the following day. Two consecutive episodes will be shown each night.
The series offers a vivid account of China's arduous 14-year journey, which began much earlier and lasted longer than any other theater of war. It illustrates how the Chinese people, with immense national sacrifice, sustained the main Eastern battlefield, making a significant contribution to the ultimate victory.
Unprecedented access to history
In a first for a Chinese production, the documentary uncovers a wealth of rarely-seen historical footage and images from countries including Russia, the United States, the United Kingdom and Japan. This includes the original narration by famous American journalist Edgar Snow, documentary film clips by renowned Soviet cinematographer Roman Karmen, and exclusive historical photos authorized by American photographers Robert Capa and Harrison Forman.
Bringing the human element to the forefront, the series features oral history from over 50 surviving veterans of the war, with the oldest being 103. Additionally, it incorporates professional and authoritative academic support from interviews with more than 20 leading domestic and international experts.
Rigorous scholarship and storytelling
The entire documentary is structured by combining a chronological timeline with a thematic approach, integrating the thoughtful and analytical style of a historical political commentary. With a clear thesis and a rigorous logical framework, the film incorporates commentary and analysis from top experts at institutions, including the Institute of Party History and Literature of the CPC Central Committee, the Academy of Military Sciences of Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), and the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.
The series strives to be objective and rich in detail, using a narrative-driven approach to explore profound questions and honor the indomitable spirit of resistance.
Don't miss the premiere of "Victory" on CCTV-1 at 8:00 p.m. on August 26, with a rebroadcast on CCTV-10 at 9:20 p.m. the following day.
