China won three golds and one silver on the second day of competition at the 2025 Chengdu World Games. In the women's 61kg karate kumite final, Gong Li beat Sarara Shimada 5-1 in the final to give China its second gold at these Games.

The 25-year-old Fujian native won bronze at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, gold at the Budapest World Championship in 2023, and gold at the Hangzhou Asian Games the same year. Gong suffered a knee injury during the group stage of last year's Asian Championships, and after eight months of recovery, she returned to competition at the Chengdu World Games. Gong scored three points early in the opening round before Shimada scored her only point. Gong went on to win 5-1 to claim the Chinese karate team's first gold medal in World Games history.
