Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Wednesday said China and the United States should establish more channels for communication and consultation and approach each other with an objective, rational and pragmatic attitude.

Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks during a meeting in Beijing with a delegation from the board of the U.S.-China Business Council (USCBC).

Wang noted that the world is undergoing a period of turbulence and transformation and that China-U.S. relations are both affected by and influencing global developments.

"Regardless of how the situation evolves, China's policy toward the U.S. remains consistent and stable," Wang said, reaffirming China's commitment to the principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation in promoting China-U.S. relations.

Wang said that since President Donald Trump took office, the two heads of state have held two important phone conversations, reaching significant consensus on improving and developing bilateral ties. He emphasized that China is willing to enhance engagement with the U.S., avoid misjudgments, manage differences and explore cooperation to implement the leaders' consensus and promote a stable, healthy and sustainable relationship.

Wang also stressed the need to respect each other's core interests and major concerns to prevent confrontation and conflict. He called for the two countries to adhere to the principles of respect, equality, and mutual benefit and to contribute more positively to both nations and the world.

On economic issues, Wang highlighted that China's economy has shown steady improvement in the first half of the year despite challenges. He reaffirmed China's commitment to high-level opening up and the creation of a first-class business environment that is market-oriented, law-based and internationalized. He welcomed continued investment from U.S. companies and encouraged them to share in China's development and growth.

He also expressed hope that the American business community would serve as interpreters of a correct understanding of China, sowers of friendship between the two peoples and practitioners of mutually beneficial cooperation.

The USCBC delegation, led by Rajesh Subramaniam, its chair of the board, welcomed China's pledge to expand high-level opening up, stressing its importance for global enterprises.

The executives affirmed their commitment to the Chinese market and vowed to strengthen cooperation in trade, investment, innovation, green development and healthcare.

They also said the USCBC would continue to foster stronger bilateral economic and cultural ties, promote mutual understanding and support the development of a more robust, balanced and mutually beneficial U.S.-China relationship.
