Israel on Sunday announced a daily 10-hour pause in military operations in parts of Gaza and the opening of new aid corridors, as Jordan and the United Arab Emirates airdropped emergency supplies into the region.

Despite growing international criticism – which the Israeli government rejects – indirect ceasefire negotiations in Doha between Israel and Hamas have broken down with no agreement in sight.

U.S. President Donald Trump, speaking during a visit to Scotland, said Israel would have to determine its next steps in Gaza, adding that he was unsure what would follow the collapse of the ceasefire and hostage-release talks.

Military activity will stop daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. (0700-1700 GMT) until further notice in Al-Mawasi, a designated humanitarian area along the coast, in central Deir al-Balah and in Gaza City, to the north.

Designated secure routes for aid convoys carrying food and medicine will operate from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., starting Sunday.

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) emphasized the urgency of receiving swift approvals from Israel to move aid trucks into Gaza and capitalize on the planned humanitarian pauses. UN aid chief Tom Fletcher noted that Israel appeared to ease some movement restrictions on Sunday and had agreed to "support a one-week scale-up of aid."

Initial reports suggest more than 100 truckloads of humanitarian aid were cleared from crossings for delivery into Gaza, Fletcher said in a statement.

In their first airdrop in months, Jordan and the UAE parachuted nearly 23 tonnes of aid into Gaza on Sunday, a Jordanian official confirmed. However, he stressed that airdrops are not a viable substitute for sustained land-based deliveries.

Palestinian health officials in Gaza City said at least 10 people were injured by falling aid boxes.

The Israeli military also announced that work would soon begin on a UAE-funded project to build a pipeline delivering water from a desalination plant in neighboring Egypt to around 600,000 Gazans along the coast.

Meanwhile, the Gaza Health Ministry reported six additional deaths from malnutrition in the past 24 hours, raising the death toll from hunger and malnutrition since the war began in 2023 to 133, including 87 children.

Aid organizations have warned of mass hunger affecting Gaza's 2.2 million residents, and international alarm over the deepening humanitarian crisis continues to grow.
