Peng Liyuan, wife of Chinese President Xi Jinping, on Thursday called on Chinese and U.S. youths to be inheritors of the China-U.S. friendship, promoters of peace and friendship, and to contribute their strength to a bright future for the two countries.

Peng made the remarks while attending a China-U.S. youth friendship exchange event at the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries in Beijing.

American youth representatives, after sharing their thoughts about the event, expressed their willingness to serve as ambassadors of friendship between the two countries.

Addressing the event, Peng said the people in China and the U.S., though they have different histories, cultures, and languages, are both kind, friendly, hardworking, and pragmatic, adding that they can be good friends and partners.

Since President Xi proposed the initiative in 2023 to invite 50,000 young Americans to China for exchange and study programs over the next five years, many U.S. youths have visited China over the past year and experienced the country firsthand, she said, adding that this has advanced bilateral friendship.

Noting that the future of a nation lies in its youth, she expressed hope that Chinese and American youths will become inheritors of China-U.S. friendship, promoters of peace and goodwill, and contribute their strength to a bright future for both nations.
