The online education service platform of China's Ministry of Education has launched a series of courses targeting urgently needed fields such as artificial intelligence (AI) and the low-altitude economy, China Media Group reported on Wednesday.

The Smart Education of China platform has launched a total of 1,455 high-quality educational resources, including 138 first-class university-level courses across 33 practical and in-demand disciplines, as well as a growing number of application-oriented micro-majors tailored to industry needs.

According to China Youth Daily, micro-majors refer to compact, specialized sets of core courses offered by universities, typically centered on a specific academic or applied field. They are designed to be targeted, interdisciplinary, and flexible, allowing students to gain additional competencies without enrolling in a full degree program. While no degree is awarded, students receive a completion certificate upon finishing the coursework.

Survey data shows that graduates from provincial universities who pursued micro-majors have seen a notable increase in successful job placements. Over 80 percent of students who completed a micro-major reported that the program helped them improve their practical skills and played a significant role in securing post-graduation employment.
