China's Chen Yufei claimed the women's singles title at the BWF Singapore Open on Sunday.

The Tokyo Olympics gold medalist dispatched compatriot and Asian champion Wang Zhiyi with clinical precision 21-11, 21-11, in a brisk 48-minute final that underscored her reemerging dominance.

Chen's victory bookends a remarkable turnaround, after an unexpected quarterfinal exit at Paris Olympics last August had cast doubt on her future, prompting a reflective hiatus that included a three-month English course in Melbourne.

But since returning to badminton in February, Chen has orchestrated a stunning resurgence, halting the 27-match winning streak of South Korea's reigning Olympic champion and World No. 1 An Se-young in the quarterfinals, before extending her own run to 22 straight victories by sweeping past Wang in the final.

Meanwhile, the men's singles spotlight belonged to Thailand's Kunlavut Vitidsarn, as the 24-year-old bulldozed China's Lu Guangzu with a commanding 21-6, 21-10 victory.

Vitidsarn's fourth title of the season not only cements his status as a rising powerhouse, but also positions him to rise to World No. 1 in the upcoming BWF rankings, a historic milestone that will make him the first men's singles player born since 2000 to claim the top spot.
